Getting Good With God: Resetting Your Body, Mind, and Spirit

Getting Good With God: Resetting Your Body, Mind, and Spirit
“Honor God by caring for the body He has entrusted to you.”
A good guiding verse is 1 Corinthians 6:19–20.

Carrying the weight of the past is exhausting. Whether it is old habits, past mistakes, or the heavy narrative we tell ourselves about who we used to be, that baggage weighs us down—physically, mentally, and spiritually.

If you have been feeling the pull to make a change, start fresh, and step into a healthier version of yourself, there is no better time than right now. But true transformation does not start in the gym or with a strict meal plan. It starts in your spirit.

Here is how you can kick off your fitness journey by letting go of yesterday and focusing on getting Good With God.
  1. Drop the Weight of Your Past: We often approach fitness as a form of self-punishment—trying to "work off" our regrets or fix parts of ourselves we do not like. That is a heavy cross to carry, and it is a fast track to burnout.
  2. Forgive yourself: God has already wiped your slate clean, so why are you still holding onto yesterday?
  3. Shift your mindset: View taking care of your body not as punishment for past failures, but as an act of gratitude for present grace.
  4. Release the guilt: Every misstep in your past was just a lesson, not a life sentence.
  5. Honor your vessel: Your body is the vehicle God gave you to fulfill your purpose on this earth.
  6. Move with purpose: Exercise becomes a celebration of what your body can do, rather than a critique of what it cannot.
  7. Nourish from a place of love: Fueling your body with wholesome foods becomes a way to honor the life you have been given.
  8. Turn sweat into prayer: Use your morning walk, run, or lifting session to talk to God, listen to worship music, or meditate on scripture.
  9. Find your strength: When a workout gets tough and you want to quit, lean into that moment to pray for endurance—not just for your muscles, but for your daily life.
  10. Show up consistently: Building a habit of physical discipline naturally spills over into spiritual discipline.

When you focus on getting right spiritually, your perspective on physical health completely changes. Diet and exercise stop being about fitting into a certain size, or chasing an aesthetic, and start being about stewardship.

Invite God Into Your Workout. Fitness can actually become a powerful spiritual practice. You do not have to separate your gym time from your quiet time.
